The Science Behind Pelvic Floor Training

Most men never think about this muscle group until something goes wrong. Here's what to know before that happens.

How Boost works: Sit on Boost, Open the app, Choose a workout and get started
1

Sit Down on Boost

Place Boost on your chair and sit down — no need to take off your clothes. The soft Air Pillow conforms to your body and senses your Kegels through your clothing.

2

Open the App

Pair Boost with the free kGoal app on your iOS or Android phone. The app guides you through workouts, tracks your progress, and keeps you motivated.

Kegels vs. Down Training

Boost supports both strengthening and relaxation — the full picture of pelvic floor health.

Boost connects Down Training and Strength Training

Kegel Strengthening

Like other muscles, pelvic floor muscles need to be strong to do their job. Kegels build strength over time and are proven to support bladder control, sexual health, and overall pelvic stability — especially important as men age or recover from prostate surgery.

Down Training

Pelvic floor muscles can become too tense, causing pain and preventing proper function. Down Training is the practice of consciously relaxing these muscles. Boost is the first smart pelvic floor trainer to offer Down Training alongside a full range of Kegel workouts.

Not sure which is right for you? Talking to a pelvic floor physical therapist is a great place to start. Boost supports both modes, so you’re covered either way.

Everything You Need to Build a Consistent Routine

Boost combines hardware, biofeedback, and a smart app to address every barrier to consistent pelvic floor exercise.

The Boost Device
On: Press and hold the Power button for 1+ seconds until the Status Light turns white.

Off: Press and hold for 2+ seconds until the Status Light turns off.
Minimum 2 hours per charge. Use the included micro-USB cable — Status Light pulses green while charging and stays solid green when done. Charge time is ~90 minutes.
Tap the Calibrate button in the top right of any workout screen. Or briefly press the Power button on the device while it’s on. Always fully relax your pelvic floor and maintain good posture when calibrating.
Common after travel or altitude changes. Press the Travel Vent on the bottom of Boost briefly to equalize pressure. Don’t squeeze the Air Pillow while doing this.
Not waterproof, but it doesn’t need to be. Simply wipe it down with a damp washcloth when needed.
The Boost App
Compatible with iOS 13+ and Android 8+ devices with Bluetooth Low Energy. Unsure? Email Support@drjoelkaplan.com.
Turn Boost on before opening the app — it connects automatically. You can also manually connect via the Settings tab in the app.
Scores are 0–10 and are a relative measure of your progress. Rising averages over time means you’re improving. The app tracks Strength, Endurance, and Control separately.
Usage & Technique
No. Boost works through most clothing. The only exception is very stiff denim — switching to looser clothing will solve it.
Sit on it like a bike seat with your perineum on the Soft Air Pillow. Most users prefer the button pointing backward. Maintain good upright posture during workouts.
Daily use of 5–15 min is optimal. At minimum, 3 days/week for 5+ minutes typically produces measurable improvements within 6–8 weeks.
Imagine you’re urinating and need to stop mid-stream. That contraction is a Kegel. Visualize a lifting and squeezing sensation. Avoid clenching your glutes, abs, or inner thighs.
Not always. People with overly tense pelvic floors (often presenting as pelvic pain) should focus on Down Training instead. Boost supports both. Consult a pelvic floor PT if unsure.
Warranty, Returns & Privacy
Warranty: 1 year covering defects or malfunctions — we’ll send a replacement at no cost.

Returns: 30-day no-questions-asked for undamaged units. Customer pays return shipping. Contact Support@drjoelkaplan.com for both.
We never share identifiable user data with third parties. We use industry-standard encryption, BLE security protocols, and AWS cloud storage.
Boost ships in plain cartons with no branding or markings — completely discreet.
